Planning Your Perfect Laundry Layout

When it comes to creating a functional and stylish laundry, a little planning goes a long way. Whether you’re refreshing an existing space or starting from scratch, mapping out your layout before you buy is key to making sure everything fits — beautifully and practically.

1. Sketch Your Layout

Start by sketching a simple plan of your laundry space. It doesn’t have to be perfect — just a quick drawing showing the walls, doors, windows, and where you’d like your key items to go. This step helps you visualise the flow of the room and ensures nothing is overlooked.

Try our online laundry planner to create your layout with accurate measurements and product selections — it’s an easy way to see how your new laundry will come together.

2. Measure the Space

  • Accurate measurements are essential. Measure the full width of your space in millimetres and take note of:
  • Doors and windows: Include their width, height, and the way doors swing — an inward door could affect how drawers open.
  • Ceiling height: Check for any sloped ceilings or beams.
  • Obstructions: Note anything that may limit cabinetry or appliance placement.
  • Wall locations: Identify whether your laundry is in an alcove, has walls on both sides, or is open-ended — this helps with fixing recommendations and packer panels to ensure a perfect fit.

TIP: Plumbing – Group your washing machine and a deep utility sink together to streamline plumbing lines, which can be more cost-effective.

3. Mark Appliance and Storage Locations

Next, decide where your appliances and cabinetry will sit. Allow for:

  • Washer and dryer clearance:  20mm gap around appliances is recommended.
  • Cabinet spacing: For side-by-side washers and dryers, allow at least 630–640mm per appliance.
  • Stacking options: Consider whether you prefer a stacked setup to save space, or a side-by-side layout for a longer benchtop. If you’re going vertical, explore our Stacker Cabinet — designed to perfectly house a front-loading washer and dryer.

TIP: Ventilation & Moisture Control – Laundries generate significant moisture, which can lead to dampness, mould, and damage to cabinetry. An effective extractor fan is an absolute must. For dryers, consider extractor hoses or heat-pump condenser dryers to reduce moisture in the room.

4. Think Vertically

Make the most of your wall space with Wall Cabinets, Open Shelves, Floating Shelves, or a Hanging Rail for air-drying clothes. Vertical storage keeps things tidy while freeing up valuable bench space below — helping you get the most out of every centimetre.

5. Plan for Everyday Tasks

Think about how you use your laundry day to day:

  • Sorting area: Create a dedicated space for sorting whites, darks, and delicates with our Pull-Out Laundry Hampers, available in single or double-drawer options.
  • Bench space: Allow room for folding and organising clean clothes with our durable Kordura Tops, available in a range of finishes to complement your space.
  • Tall storage: Include a Tall Cabinet — available with five shelves or with one shelf and a hanging rail — perfect for storing mops, brooms, and vacuums neatly out of sight.
  • Concealed storage: Keep things tidy with Top Cabinets and Drawer Units to hide detergents, baskets, and other everyday essentials for a seamless, clutter-free look.
